Automotive Master Technician

Key Responsibilities
- Own technical quality and turnaround for assigned workorders: perform complex diagnostics, oversee major repairs (engine, transmission, ABS, ADAS calibration), verify repairs on the road or dyno, and sign off final inspections to the workshop’s quality standards and OEM procedures.
- Lead fault diagnosis and corrective action: use advanced scan tools and waveforms to isolate intermittent or multi-system faults, create and manage repair plans, replace/repair components, and verify fixes with post-repair testing.
- Perform and certify safety-critical services: carry out brake system overhauls, suspension rebuilds, steering alignments, and electrical subsystem repairs, ensuring all work meets legal and OEM safety requirements.
- Manage EV/HEV high-voltage tasks (if applicable): follow HV isolation and PPE procedures, perform battery system checks, assist with battery replacements and support certified EV diagnostics under approved processes.
- Supervise workshop operations and technicians: allocate jobs, mentor junior technicians, review workmanship, enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs), and run shift handovers to keep productivity and quality consistent.
- Maintain accurate records and parts control: complete service orders, capture fault codes and repair evidence, log serial numbers/warranties, and liaise with parts stores to expedite critical spares and returns.
- Drive continuous improvement and reliability: analyse repeat-fault trends, conduct root-cause investigations, recommend service bulletins or process updates, and liaise with technical support for complex issues.
- Support customer experience and technical liaison: explain technical findings to customers, produce clear repair estimates, manage warranty submissions, and represent the workshop during manufacturer or insurer audits.
Requirements
- 5+ years’ hands-on workshop experience with progressive responsibilities; prior role as senior technician, master tech or workshop lead preferred.
- Recognised automotive qualification (diploma/certificate) in Vehicle Technology, plus manufacturer training or certifications such as IMI/ASE or equivalent; EV high-voltage training desirable.
- Advanced diagnostic proficiency with OEM-level tools and oscilloscope/waveform analysis; experience with dealer or aftermarket diagnostic suites and workshop management systems. Preferred tool familiarity: Snap-on.
- Strong mechanical and electrical competence across engines, transmissions, ABS/ESP, ADAS calibration, HVAC and vehicle electrics; able to read wiring diagrams and interpret technical service bulletins.
- Proven leadership and coaching skills: mentoring junior staff, running shift briefings, enforcing safety and quality standards, and supporting continuous skills development.
- Excellent communication in English (spoken and written), customer service orientation, and willingness to work rota/shift patterns with occasional weekend or on-call requirements.
